97 kg of endangered sea cucumbers seized by Indian Coast Guard in Tamil Nadu; handed over to forest department for conservation.
Indian Coast Guard recovered 97 kg of endangered sea cucumbers from Tamil Nadu's North Vedalai sea shore, handing them over to the Tamil Nadu Forest Department for conservation. Sea cucumbers, a single-branched marine organism, are classified as an endangered species and their harvest is prohibited under the Wildlife Protection Act. The main reason for the smuggling is the high price sea cucumbers fetch in the international market.
