21-year ferry service veteran John "Jed" Dixon has been appointed as the new director of North Carolina's Ferry Division. Dixon, a native of Manteo and previously deputy director and interim director, will focus on improving ferry system efficiency, maintaining routes, and providing dependable service. He succeeds Harold Thomas, who retired last year. The Ferry Division operates seven year-round routes, a seasonal ferry, and employs nearly 500 workers.
