South Sudan rescinded new taxes, resuming UN food airdrops upon UN appeal, due to aid dependency.

South Sudan removed newly imposed taxes and fees that triggered the suspension of UN food airdrops, following an appeal from the United Nations. Thousands of people in the country depend on aid from the outside. The U.N. earlier urged South Sudanese authorities to remove the new taxes introduced in February, which applied to charges for electronic cargo tracking, security escort fees, and fuel.
