Itasca State Park draws over 500k visitors annually.
Established in 1891, Itasca State Park attracts over half a million visitors annually to see its giant pines and wade across the Mississippi River's headwaters. Visitors can enjoy several highlights in May-June, such as the return of songbirds, including 20 warbler species. The best birding times are early morning and early evening. Park Rapids, the "Gateway to Itasca State Park," is located 22 miles north via Hwy. 71.
