Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva welcomed Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on his first visit to Brazil, encouraging him to eat Brazilian beef and open Japanese markets to Brazilian beef exports. This has been a goal for Brazil since 2005. Lula invited Kishida to dine at a steakhouse during his trip to experience Brazilian cuisine.
