Brazil has rejected a $25.7 billion (127 billion reais) settlement offer from mining giants Vale SA and BHP Group Ltd. for the 2015 tailings dam disaster at their Samarco iron ore joint venture in Mariana. Brazil's Mines and Energy Minister, Alexandre Silveira, called the proposal "less adequate" than a previous one. The government accused the companies of attempting to transfer their obligations to the federal government and the states.
