Afghan Consul General in Mumbai, Zakia Wardak, has resigned after being accused of attempting to smuggle 25 kg of gold worth nearly $2.2 million from Dubai to India. Wardak stated she was stepping down due to "numerous personal attacks and defamation" that impacted her ability to perform her role. DRI officials intercepted her at Mumbai airport on April 25, and while she was not arrested due to diplomatic immunity, a case of gold smuggling has been registered.
