40% of US telecom firms receiving federal support need $3.08bn more to remove Chinese equipment (Huawei, ZTE) from their networks, due to security concerns. The FCC estimates the cost of removal at $4.98bn, but Congress has only approved $1.9bn. FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel warned that some carriers may have to shut down without full funding.
