1st known animal, Sumatran orangutan Rakus, uses medicinal plant Akar Kuning to treat wound.

A wild Sumatran orangutan named Rakus in Indonesia has become the first known animal to treat a wound with a medicinal plant. Researchers observed the orangutan chewing the leaves of a climbing plant called Akar Kuning and applying the juice from the leaves to a wound on his cheek. He then covered the wound with the chewed plant material, creating a makeshift bandage. This is the first time scientists have seen an animal use a plant with known medical properties to treat a wound.
