97.76% of Rs 2000 banknotes withdrawn from circulation in 2023 have been returned to the banking system, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). As of April 30, 2024, the remaining value of the withdrawn notes in circulation is Rs 7,961 crore. The Rs 2000 banknotes continue to be legal tender and can be deposited or exchanged at the 19 RBI offices across India.
