Paetongtarn Shinawatra, daughter of ex-Thailand premier Thaksin Shinawatra and leader of the ruling Pheu Thai party, criticized central bank independence as an obstacle in resolving economic issues, as the Bank of Thailand (BOT) refuses to reduce interest rates despite pressure from the Prime Minister. Thaksin Shinawatra dismissed a central bank governor in his first term over disagreements on monetary policy.
