Navy destroyer Stout aided an injured cargo ship crew member off the coast of North Carolina, providing medical assistance and coordinating with the Coast Guard to arrange a helicopter for a medical evacuation. The Stout's crew responded to a radio transmission from the cargo vessel Grande Portogallo, which had completed exercise Group Sail. The injured crew member suffered from a hot fuel oil spill.
