Major General Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed becomes Kenya's first female Air Force Commander, following her appointment by President William Ruto. Ahmed, who has previously been appointed Senior Directing Staff Air, is the first woman to lead a service in the nation's Armed Forces. The appointment follows the death of the previous military chief in a helicopter crash and the promotion of Charles Muriu Kahariri to the position of Chief of Defence Forces.
