The Kern County Fire Department has issued an evacuation warning for the "School Fire," a wildfire near Maricopa, east of the city, which began on Thursday afternoon. The fire has burned over 1,000 acres of dry grass and is not yet contained. Residents in the evacuation warning zone are advised to be prepared to evacuate if necessary, and additional help can be sought through the Aging and Adult Services hotline.
