Red alert issued for Kerala and southern Tamil Nadu coasts from May 4-5 due to high-energy swell waves 'Kallakadal'.

Kerala and southern Tamil Nadu are under a red alert due to high-energy swell waves, called 'Kallakadal', expected to hit the coast from May 4 to 5. Coastal communities have been advised to remain vigilant, with low-lying areas at risk of intermittent surges of seawater. The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services forecasts the high-energy swell waves will dominate the nearshore region, with rough seas and waves reaching 0.5 to 1.5 meters in height. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has issued directions to suspend recreational activities along the beaches and advised against traveling to the coast.
