Glencore explores potential bid for Anglo American, following Anglo's rejection of BHP's $39bn offer.
Commodities group Glencore is reportedly studying an approach for Anglo American, potentially setting up a bidding war for the mining company. Glencore's discussions are currently internal and preliminary, and have not yet resulted in an approach to Anglo. Anglo recently rejected a $39bn all-stock proposal from BHP Group, with the Australian mining giant considering making an improved offer. Anglo's copper assets in Chile and Peru are attractive to its competitors, including Glencore and BHP Group.
