Europe's largest zinc mine, Tara Mines, plans to reopen in July after a year-long closure resulted in 600 layoffs. Over 400 workers will return as the Swedish owner, Boliden Group, agrees to a financial restructuring plan. The agreement aims to reopen the mine on a more sustainable basis and will involve a reduction in headcount to approximately 400 full-time workers and the pursuit of around 150 voluntary redundancies. The reopening process will take place in phases, with onboarding and retraining programs for returning employees.
