EU announces $1.06B aid package for Lebanon to improve border control and stem migrant flow.
The European Union (EU) has announced a $1.06 billion aid package for Lebanon, with the majority of the funds aimed at boosting border control to stem the flow of asylum seekers and migrants from the crisis-stricken country across the Mediterranean Sea to Cyprus and Italy. The deal follows other EU aid packages for countries such as Egypt, Tunisia, and Mauritania to fortify their borders. The aid package for Lebanon is expected to begin this year and last until 2027.
