The White House has appointed Donna Hayashi Smith as its new curator, making her the first Asian American to hold this position. Smith, who has served at the White House for over two decades, will oversee the care of thousands of artifacts in the White House collection, including presidential portraits and furniture. This appointment comes during Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
