2023 Irish rental crisis worsens as rent prices rise by 9.1% and new tenancy registrations decrease by 31%.
Ireland's rental crisis continues as new data reveals that rents have risen by 9.1% over the past year, with particularly large increases outside Dublin. Rents for sitting tenants are also rising at three times the permitted level under rental cap rules. Sinn Féin claims the government has "no plan" for the private rent sector, which is spiralling out of control. The Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) reported a 31% drop in new tenancy registrations in the last three months of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, and rents for existing tenancies have increased by 5.9%.
