New Zealand's annual number of homes consented fell by 25% to 35,236 in the year ended March 2024, according to Stats NZ. The annual number of new homes consented has decreased from its peak of 51,015 in the year ended May 2022. The construction and property statistics manager, Michael Heslop, noted that there were 15,166 stand-alone houses consented (down 23%) and 20,070 multi-unit homes consented (down 26%) in the same period.
