Canadian oil and gas company Cenovus Energy reported a first-quarter profit of $1.18 billion, an increase from $636 million a year ago, due to increased production and refinery throughput. The company's quarterly refining throughput reached a record 655,200 barrels per day, contributing to a 3% increase in total upstream production. Cenovus reported a net income of 62 Canadian cents per share for the first quarter, surpassing analysts' average estimate of 54 Canadian cents.
