26-year-old Finnish hacker Aleksanteri Kivimäki sentenced to 6.5 years for hacking psychotherapy center, demanding ransoms, and publishing patient info.
26-year-old Finnish hacker, Aleksanteri Kivimäki, has been sentenced to six years and three months in prison for hacking into a private psychotherapy center in Finland and demanding ransoms from patients. Kivimäki, who was living under a false identity in Paris, was arrested in February 2023 and deported to Finland. In 2018, he hacked into the center's database containing 33,000 clients and demanded around 370,000 euros in bitcoins for not publishing the patient records. When the center refused, he began publishing patient information on the dark web and sent messages demanding ransoms of 200 euros or 500 euros. At least 20 patients paid the ransom. Kivimäki denies the charges, and his lawyer said he would likely appeal.
