Jailed schoolteacher Enoch Burke is suing Mediahuis Ireland Ltd, the publisher of the Sunday Independent, over a 2022 article that he claims falsely stated he was moved to a new cell in Mountjoy Prison because he was "annoying" other inmates. The article, published during Burke's first stint in prison for contempt of court, has been described as a "character assassination" that sold "a lie" and was "professionally devastating". Burke is claiming defamation and is also suing Sunday Independent editor Alan English and reporter Ali Bracken.
