Finnish firm Wärtsilä supplies efficient engines for Canada's largest Polar Icebreaker, built by Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards.
Finnish technology group Wärtsilä will supply engines for Canada's new Polar Icebreaker, designed and built at Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards. The vessel, set to be the largest in the Canadian Coast Guard's fleet, will operate under PC2 conditions and feature four 16-cylinder and two 8-cylinder Wärtsilä 31 engines that deliver 47 MW of power. Fuel efficiency was a key design consideration in selecting the engines, which have been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the most efficient 4-stroke diesel engines.
