Uber discontinues its app in Pakistan, with Careem continuing operations under Uber ownership.
Multinational transportation company Uber has discontinued the operation of its app in Pakistan, announcing that its subsidiary brand Careem will continue to operate, offering ride-hailing services across Pakistan. Uber had previously scaled back its business in Pakistan, limiting it to Lahore in 2022. In March 2019, Uber acquired its then Middle East rival Careem for $3.1 billion, with Careem becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Uber while continuing to operate independently with its own branding, services, and separate app.
