Illinois lawmakers propose merging CTA, Metra into single agency to streamline transportation, combat climate change, and make the transportation sector carbon-neutral. The bill aims to prevent duplication of efforts to seek funding and combine the RTA, CTA, Metra, and Pace into a single agency called the Metropolitan Mobility Authority (MMA), which would receive an additional $1.5bn in annual funding. The proposed MMA would oversee all public transit operations in McHenry, Lake, Kane, DuPage, Cook, and Will counties.
