Delhi court takes cognizance of chargesheet against NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha under UAPA for alleged pro-China propaganda funding.
A Delhi court has taken cognizance of a chargesheet filed against NewsClick founder and Editor-in-Chief Prabir Purkayastha under India's anti-terror law UAPA. The charges are based on allegations that the news portal received money from China to spread pro-China propaganda. The court has directed the prosecution to supply a copy of the charge sheet to Purkayastha, and has set May 31 for arguments on framing of charges in the case. In January, the court allowed NewsClick HR Head Amit Chakravarty to turn approver in the case, and both Chakravarty and Purkayastha are currently in judicial custody.
