BC Premier calls for change to Health Canada exemption allowing police to intervene in public drug use during decriminalization pilot project.
The federal Conservatives are urging the Liberals to halt public drug use after British Columbia announced plans to reduce its decriminalization pilot project. BC Premier David Eby recently called for an "urgent" change to a Health Canada exemption that allows police to intervene if they witness drug use in public. The federal minister for addictions and mental health, Ya'ara Saks, has stated that it's too early to draw conclusions about drug decriminalization as BC is only one year into its three-year pilot project.
