34-year-old former Adelaide captain Rory Sloane has announced his immediate retirement from AFL due to the risk of further eye damage. Sloane had undergone a second surgery on a detached retina in January after an initial procedure in 2021. With a history of eye injuries, including a torn retina in 2013 and a fractured eye socket in 2017, Sloane played 255 games for Adelaide across 16 seasons.
