50,000-year-old extinct short-faced kangaroo fossil discovered in deep underground caves in Gunaikurnai Country, north of Buchan, eastern Victoria. The Museums Victoria Research Institute, along with recreational cavers and Parks Victoria rangers, excavated the near-complete skeleton of Simosthenurus occidentalis in Nightshade Cave. The fossil will be displayed at the Melbourne Museum in June.
