17.5% potential decrease in UK wheat, barley, oats, and oilseed rape production due to wet weather, leading to higher prices for bread, beer, and biscuits.

Wet weather in the UK is likely to lead to a potential 17.5% decrease in the production of wheat, barley, oats, and oilseed rape, potentially resulting in higher prices for bread, beer, and biscuits. The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit's (ECIU) analysis of crop area forecasts and government yield data found that harvested quantities of these key crops could drop by almost a fifth, or 4 million tonnes compared to 2023. This could cause production costs to escalate, leading to increased prices for consumers.
