27,000 tonnes of waste buried in Hoad's Wood, a site of special scientific interest in Ashford, Kent, prompts calls for immediate Environment Agency funding.

Calls for the Environment Agency to immediately fund the clearance of Hoad’s Wood, a beauty spot in Ashford, Kent, designated a site of special scientific interest, are mounting. The woodland, now described as an "environmental disaster," is buried under landfill waste up to 25 feet deep, despite continuous reporting of fly-tipping to the authorities. The Rescue Hoad’s Wood campaign group says 27,000 tonnes of processed waste need to be cleared, with an estimated cost of £10 million.
