Sierra Nevada Corp. wins $13B contract to develop successor to "Doomsday Plane" E-4B by 2036.
Sierra Nevada Corp. has won a $13 billion contract to develop a successor to the "Doomsday Plane," the E-4B command and control aircraft. The project, called the Survivable Airborne Operations Center, will replace the aging 1970s-era aircraft and is expected to be completed by July 2036. The E-4B is designed to allow the president to direct forces in the event of a national emergency such as a nuclear attack.
