8.7 million Canadians (22.9%) reported food insecurity in 2022, an increase of 1.8 million from the previous year's 18.4% rate, according to Statistics Canada. Marginally food insecure individuals remained stable at 6%, while moderately and severely food insecure people increased to nearly 17%. One-parent families and unattached non-seniors were at a higher risk of food insecurity compared to other family structures.
