Somalia's government suspended and detained members of its elite U.S.-trained Danab commando unit for stealing U.S.-donated rations. The Danab unit, integral to U.S.-backed efforts against the Al Qaeda-linked militant group Al Shabaab, has had its provisioning taken over by the Somali defense ministry. The U.S. plans to work with the Danab on implementing safeguards and accountability measures to prevent future incidents affecting assistance.
