Australian government allocates $161.3m to improve community safety.

The funding, set to be announced in the May 14 federal budget, aims to establish a countrywide database and upgrade state and territory firearms management systems. The register follows the tragic Wieambilla shootings in 2022, which prompted the national cabinet to establish the register.
