The victim, a 19-year-old woman, was kidnapped in Owensboro, Kentucky, and driven to Indiana where she was sexually assaulted by an unknown man. DNA evidence submitted to CODIS in 2022 led to a match with Shelton in January 2023, resulting in his arrest and conviction.
