Swiss firm ABB supplies hybrid-electric propulsion system for new Maine ferry, reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Swiss firm ABB will supply a hybrid-electric propulsion system for a new ferry connecting Maine's Lincolnville and Islesboro, replacing an ageing diesel ferry. The new double-ended hybrid-electric ferry is expected to cut fuel consumption by 100,000 gallons per year, reducing CO2 emissions by around 1,100 tons. The project aligns with Maine's Clean Transportation Roadmap targeting carbon neutrality by 2045.
