South Korean memory chipmaker SK Hynix plans to invest $14.6bn in building a new memory chip complex to meet rapidly growing demand for semiconductors used in AI development. Construction is set to begin at the end of April and continue until November 2025, with the aim of mass production. The total investment in the new production base is expected to exceed $20bn in the long term, as SK Hynix fits it out with equipment over time. The company is the current leader in a type of advanced chip called high-bandwidth memory, tailored for AI.
