Professor Ximena Nelson of the University of Canterbury received a $1.35M grant from the Human Frontier Science Program to research the predatory cat-like behavior of Portia jumping spiders. These spiders, native to tropical forests, feed on other spiders and employ stealth tactics, often taking long detours to stalk their prey unseen. The research aims to further understand spider behavior and their prey-predator dynamics.
