Madras High Court adjourns hearing on Ilaiyaraaja's song copyright dispute with Echo Recording until June.
Madras High Court has ruled that commercial transactions of 4,500 film songs by composer R. Ilaiyaraaja are contingent on an appeal filed by Echo Recording Private Limited. The court recognized Ilaiyaraaja's moral rights over his compositions but adjourned the hearing until the second week of June. Echo Recording claims to have purchased rights to the songs from film producers, while Ilaiyaraaja's counsel argues that the copyright remains with the composer.
