Louisiana Supreme Court allows new rape trial for Melanie Curtin linked to ex-deputy's sex crimes case.
The Louisiana Supreme Court has denied an appeal by the Louisiana Attorney General's Office, allowing Melanie Curtin, a Denham Springs woman linked to ex-deputy Dennis Perkins' sex crimes case, to get a new rape trial. Curtin was convicted of aggravated rape and video voyeurism in 2021 and sentenced to life without parole, but an appeals court found certain evidence was not presented at her initial trial that could have helped her defense. The court ruled that a new trial would serve justice.
