Ghana's Supreme Court declares payment of spouses' salaries of President and VP unconstitutional.
The Supreme Court of Ghana has declared the payment of salaries to spouses of the President and Vice President as unconstitutional, ruling that the First and Second ladies of Ghana do not fall under the category of Public Office holders. The Emolument Committee of Parliament is limited to recommending salaries and benefits for public office holders only. This decision was made following two separate suits challenging parliament's approval of payment for first and second ladies' salaries.
