Alabama lawmakers advance bill to expand public school ban on teacher-led discussions on sexual orientation and gender identity, including Pride symbols, to 8th grade.
Alabama lawmakers advanced a bill to expand the state's ban on teacher-led discussions on sexual orientation and gender identity in public school classrooms, extending it to eighth grade. The legislation, which critics have dubbed "Don't Say Gay", would also prohibit teachers and school employees from displaying Pride flags or similar symbols on school grounds. Opponents argue the move sends a negative message to LGBTQ+ students, families, and teachers.
