20-year-old footballer Jude Bellingham won the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year award, becoming the first footballer to receive the honor. He was joined by tennis legend Novak Djokovic who won his fifth Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award, equalling the record held by Roger Federer. The Spain women's football team was awarded the Laureus World Team of the Year for their victory at the 2023 Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
