24-year-old Jacob Beacher has been charged with a hate crime for allegedly breaking into and vandalizing the Center for Islamic Life at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, during the Muslim holiday of Eid-al-Fitr. The suspect allegedly damaged religious artifacts, Quranic verses, and stole a Palestinian flag from the Islamic center. Beacher, who is not affiliated with the university, was arrested after investigators determined he broke into the center on April 10.
