Train operator Northern has recorded its lowest rate of fare evasion, with just 3% of passengers caught traveling without a ticket, resulting in a £4m revenue recovery. Following a 20% reduction in penalty fares since 2023, almost 97% of passengers are now purchasing tickets. Rail operators continue to crack down on fare dodging, with c2c issuing a record £10,000 fine to a persistently evading passenger.
