2023 saw Asia as the most disaster-hit region globally due to extreme weather, climate, and water-related hazards, according to the United Nations' World Meteorological Organization (WMO). Floods and storms led to the highest number of reported fatalities and economic losses. Climate change is said to have aggravated the occurrence and intensity of these events, and Asia's warming is faster than the global average, with temperatures last year nearly two degrees Celsius above the 1961-1990 average.
