The Oscars have introduced stricter rules for theatrical distribution, requiring a one-week qualifying run in six US cities (Los Angeles, New York, Bay Area, Chicago, Atlanta, and Dallas-Forth Worth) for the 2025 awards. Drive-in theaters will no longer count towards qualification. Films vying for Best Picture must have a seven-day extended run in 10 of the top 50 US markets.
